Maui Wedding Photographer

My name is Michael long and I’m a Maui wedding photographer that specializes in creating photographs with off camera lighting. I do an excellent job of capturing every moment & detail of your wedding while maintaining a candid feel. However, I’m not a photo journalist. I create the perfect lighting to create the best photographs; not just document your wedding.

I moved to Hawaii from Portland OR where I ran a studio as a fashion photographer which played a large part in developing my wedding photography style. I don’t photograph with available lighting because there is rarely good lighting. Maui weddings usually overlook the ocean around sunset which would either make you a silhouette or I’d have to overexpose the beautiful view in the background. Instead, I use a series of Canon speedlights equipped with E-TTL ii to automatically set the perfect exposure instantly. This allows me to get perfect exposure of everything while opening countless lighting options as opposed to “what’s available”.

I am a huge fan of photoshop & edit all of my work. I taught photoshop at Maui Community College in ’09 as a substitute teacher and since then have continued to teach myself & use more software & plugins besides just photoshop. This is another area where I feel I differ greatly from a photo journalist. I view the photographs that I take as the first step of the art that I create.

I will deliver all your wedding photographs as a digital copy at 39 MegaPixels (for large prints use) and a second set of the same images at 1.5 MegaPixels (for web use). You will receive all rights to your photos so that you can make your own prints. All photographs you receive will be professionally edited and sent within three weeks of the wedding day and within one week of a family photo shoot.

My Maui wedding photography rates range from $1,200 - $4,200. My Maui family photography rates range from $250 - $800. I provide destination wedding photography for the same rates plus a travel fee.

Maui Wedding Photography

I provide Maui wedding photography at $600/hour. You will receive professionally edited photographs within three weeks of your wedding day as well as a copyright release to make your own prints.

I’ve always loved photography and decided to turn my passion into a full time career when I started my business as a wedding photographer in ‘08. I switched exclusively to fashion photography for a couple years but since moving back to Maui have gone back to the art of wedding photography with a completely different style influenced from what I learned as a fashion photographer.
